Alexandra Pethtel's Travel Story

Alexandra Pethtel's Travel Story

Q: How old were you when you started skiing?
I was just under two years old.

Q: What is your favorite breakfast spot before hitting the mountain?
Victoria’s Espresso a couple of blocks from the gondola. Make sure you fuel up with a breakfast sanga (Aussie for sandwich) at this cute and casual Australian cafe.

Q: What is your favorite on mountain lunch spot in Aspen?
Aspen Mountain (a.k.a Ajax) - For lunch, I love Bonnie’s they have unbelievably good salads and the biggest slices of homemade pies you’ve ever seen. I also love Ajax Tavern, where you might get lucky and see the electric violinist playing. Enjoy drinks and live music, and be sure to order the truffle parmesan french fries, they’re one of my favorites!

Q: What is your favorite boutique to shop at?
Gorsuch. It’s impossible for me to visit Aspen without visiting my favorite store at least once. Located at the base of Ajax, pop over for any last minute gifts or home decor and clothing favorites to take with you.

Q: What is your favorite "hidden" dinner spot in Aspen?
Pine Creek Cookhouse - You can opt to get back on your feet and take a cross-country ski or snowshoe tour to the restaurant, but if you’re like me, you’ll take the horse and carriage ride under the stars to a picturesque cabin nestled into the mountain.

Q: What is your favorite Aspen nightspot?
After dinner, continue your night at the Caribou Club, a private members club where you can have a delectable Espresso Martini as a nightcap, or stay a little bit longer for the DJ and dancing. A couple of drinks in, you may remember you’re at altitude, and notice the alcohol is hitting you a little faster than you anticipated. Ask for some famously yummy cheesy bread to soak it up!

Q: What is your first memory of Aspen?
My first memory as a child is visiting with my parents and the special memories we created as a family.

Q: What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you on the ski slopes?
Third wheeling one my best friend on her Ajax ski-tinder date.

Q: Do you work out when you travel, or nah?
On a nice day I love to squeeze in a quick hike.

Q: What is your favorite gym/spa in Aspen?
St. Regis spa is the absolute best! I love their indoor pool, and if I have time it's great to get a facial there.

Q:  Favorite Museum to visit?
Aspen Art Museum - Gorgeously designed by Shigeru Ban.

Q:  Favorite movie to watch with friends after a long day of skiing?
The Holiday - love Jude Law.

Q: Favorite hotel in Aspen?
The Little Nell - as close to the slopes at Ajax as you can get. Hotel Jerome - Ralph Lauren chic meets a mountain vibe. The St. Regis Aspen Resort - super luxurious with the best spa in Aspen.

Q: What personal care products do you always back when you travel to keep your skin moisturized in the winter?
37 Actives Extra Rich High-Performance Anti-Aging Cream, Avene Soothing Sheet Mask, Hampton Sun Lip Balm.

Q: Have you ever gotten a little sunburn from skiing?
Unfortunately yes, always remember to reapply sunblock and reapply again!

Q:  Favorite SPF to use on the slopes?
Soleil Toujours SPF 30 Organic Mist. It's easy to mist on.

Q: Favorite childhood movie you watched all the time?
Legends of the Fall. It's a classic!
